Historical Notes

This style of hunting hanger was widely carried throughout Continental Europe during the latter half of the eighteenth century. Similar swords were used by hunters, foresters, gamekeepers, civilian officials, and military officers as practical sidearms and dress weapons. Examples of this general form date to the Revolutionary War era, although no direct American or military provenance is claimed for this particular sword.

An excellent addition to any collection of early European edged weapons, Revolutionary War-era antiques, hunting swords, or eighteenth-century militaria.
