This is a vintage Rémy Martin XO Cognac advertising table lighter, made in the shape of a cognac bottle. The front has a gold label with "XO," Rémy Martin's famous centaur emblem, the Rémy Martin script signature, and "Cognac." The sides of the body have a fine basketweave engine-turned pattern. The top mechanism is the fun part: a lever shaped like a hand reaches across the top of the "bottle." When you press it, it lifts the snuffer cap, which is shaped like a small cognac snifter glass, so the flame lights over the glass. The neck of the bottle is topped with a knurled cap, and the butane refill valve is on the bottom.

Rémy Martin was founded in 1724 in the Cognac region of France and is one of the great names in fine cognac. The centaur emblem has been the house's symbol for generations, and its XO is the flagship of the line. Lighters like this were made as promotional and bar gifts, and figural "bottle" lighters with clever moving parts like this one are popular with lighter collectors and with collectors of liquor and barware advertising. Based on the design and the butane mechanism, it most likely dates to the 1970s or 1980s. I don't see a maker's mark.

It stands about 3¾ inches tall and has a nice solid weight. It would look great on a bar, a desk, or in a cognac or tobacciana collection.

Condition: the lighter is untested and sold as found. It has no butane, and I have not tried to fill or light it. The lever opens and closes. The finish shows wear that matches its age and use: the silver-tone body has spotting and some wear on the edges, the gold-tone parts have toning and areas of plating wear, especially on the hand lever, and the bottom plate is discolored. The front label is clean and fully readable. Please see all photos, which are part of the description.

Lost &Damaged Claims

For lost parcels, you must wait for 21 days domestic (US) and 45 days for International shipments. For shipments to Italy, you must wait 60 days before filing. Damage claims can be filed immediately. All claims should be submitted within 90 days from the date of shipment. All International parcels will be insured with U-PIC, please do not file a "not received "claim with PayPal, just contact us to resolve your problem.
