Rare WWI US Allied Relief Medal Fob Do Right And Fear No Man French Wounded Fund.This World War I Allied Relief Medal (also known as the 'French Wounded Fund Medal' and sometimes called the 'Do Right and Fear No Man' medal) is a rare, historically significant WWI commemorative piece of history. It is highly sought after by militaria and numismatic collectors. The medals were sold to raise charitable funds for over 3,000 French hospitals and to commemorate the United States' entry into the war. The medal was designed by renowned artist and sculptor Theodore Spicer-Simson and struck by the Gorham Manufacturing Company to raise funds for French hospital relief. The front of the medal features Allied coats of arms surrounding an American eagle and shield. It bears the motto "DO RIGHT AND FEAR NO MAN," which is famously attributed to the engraving found on George Washington's sword. The reverse is stamped with the date April 6, 1917 (the day the U.S. entered WWI) and a quote from the Gettysburg Address: "That Government by the People Shall Not Perish." Theodore Spicer-Simson’s “TSS” hallmark is located beneath the point of the shield. The mark of the manufacturer (Gorham Co.) is near the lower edge. We show both hallmarks in a close-up photo.
Research indicates this WWI US Allied Reliefmedal is a bronze composition, and there is still a lot of the original gilt surface treatment remaining.It is in very nice antique condition, as shown in the photos.
