Description:
Up for sale/sale is an incredibly rare, vintage Winchester No. 3080 Scraper Plane.
Manufactured during a brief decade-long window in the 1920s when the iconic Winchester Repeating Arms Company expanded into premium hardware and woodworking tools, these planes are highly sought after by specialized tool collectors. This specific model was manufactured for Winchester by Sargent & Company.
Condition Details:
• Casting & Markings: The cast-iron body is structurally sound with no cracks, chips, or welds. The original factory stamp reads "WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK / No 3080" and is clearly legible on the toe.
• Handles: The original double-bar wooden handle configuration is in excellent, solid condition. The wood has a beautiful deep patina with typical light wear but completely lacks the severe cracks or splits common for this model.
• Hardware: The original central adjustment rod and dual brass/steel thumbscrews are present, threads are in great shape, and the adjustment mechanism functions smoothly.
• Blades & Paint: The tool shows a honest, working patina with normal finish loss to its original black japanning. It includes a vintage scraper blade that matches the aged patina and metal wear of the body perfectly. The blade is unmarked, which is common for these Sargent-made production runs.
This is a fantastic, complete survivor from a short-lived chapter of Winchester history. Perfect as a standout addition to an antique tool collection or for a woodworker looking to put a premium piece of history back to work.
Please examine the high-resolution photos carefully as they serve as the definitive description of the tool's cosmetic condition. Sold as-is.
