Rare Vintage NYA New Deal Kansas Historical Marker Model Wood First Capitol Sign:
$249.95

RARE VINTAGE NEW DEAL AMERICANA: Handcrafted National Youth Administration (N.Y.A.) Miniature Scale Model of the "First Capitol of Kansas" Historical Marker.Offered for sale is an incredibly rare, historically significant piece of 1930s/early 1940s New Deal folk art. Unlike common mass-produced tourist souvenirs, this stunning miniature scale replica was handcrafted by young workers in a National Youth Administration (NYA) vocational training workshop during the Great Depression. The back of the central plaque is proudly stamped with the crisp, authentic agency mark: N.Y.A.The central hanging plaque features beautifully detailed, pressed/carved text transcribing the historical marker text for the First Capitol of Kansas (located in Pawnee, famously restored by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1928).EXACT DIMENSIONS:
  • Overall Log Frame: 9 1/4" Long × 2" Wide × 8" Tall
  • Display Base: 11 1/4" Long × 4" Wide
  • Central Hanging Plaque: 6 1/4" Long × 4 1/4" Tall
CONDITION REPORT:This piece is in stunning vintage condition given its age. The natural log posts retain their beautiful, warm finish, and the dark-stained base offers a solid, sturdy display. The stamped "N.Y.A." lettering on the reverse side is clear and completely legible.Note on Cosmetic Condition: There are some minor, superficial finish rubs/lighter wear marks on the vertical log uprights on both the front and back sides (as pictured). This is typical for handled vintage wooden items and does not affect the structural integrity. Aside from these rubs and the broken tiny copper stabilizer chains on both lower sides (which originally kept the sign from swinging), there are no major issues, cracks, or repairs. The two main top hooks that hold the sign up are completely strong and intact. This item displays beautifully and holds incredible historical integrity. Please review all photos for exact cosmetic details.
