Incredibly rare, authentic piece of mid-century textile art. While famed American illustrator Lois Long (1918–2005) is widely known for her 100% linen kitchen and tea towels, this is a highly elusive, signed terry cloth novelty beach/pool towel. Featuring a whimsical, kitschy 1950s/1960s graphic style, this piece is a must-have "unicorn" find for advanced mid-century modern (MCM) collectors.
The towel features a charming, vibrant mid-century illustration of a pink-and-white striped beach cabana tent. Inside sits a punch bowl on a wrought-iron stand with a hand-lettered sign reading: "Make yourself at home. I've gone for a swim." A bright orange "WELCOME" banner stretches across the bottom. The artist’s iconic script signature, "Lois Long," is printed in the lower right corner. Soft, loop-weave terry cloth cotton with classic fringed borders on the top and bottom. Excellent vintage pre-owned condition! This towel has been remarkably well-preserved. No stains, spots, or major discoloration detected. Graphics and text remain bright, bold, and highly legible. The fringe is intact.
