First Class: Its specifications are as follows:It consists of a circular medallion, made of 900-grade silver plated with gold. It bears the details of the decoration itself, in a large and a smaller size. The (front) of the medal: The upper section is crowned by the noble Quranic verse: \"God will raise in ranks those among you who have believed and those who have been given knowledge.\" The background here is deep blue. Below this lies the Iraqi flag, positioned above a yellow-colored architectural arch, characteristic of the Abbasid era in Iraq. Within the arch, a sun sits at the center of the medal, framing a statement by President Saddam Hussein (may God protect him): \"Attention given to knowledge must be matched by attention given to the nation.\" In the lower part of the medal, there is an open book bearing the inscription \"Order Of Knowledge\" (*Wisam al-Ilm*). Surmounting the book is a green-colored Sumerian vessel, from which the two eternal rivers—the Tigris and the Euphrates—emerge, flowing down along both sides of the book toward the base of the medal. Lining the right and left edges of this side are 18 white, eight-pointed stars set against a green background—nine stars on each side—with their total number representing the number of Iraq’s governorates. The remainder of the medal’s surface features an image of the reverse side of the Baghdadi astrolabe.
