RARE EXPERIMENTAL CLASS K5 #5698 — OFFICIAL \"SAMPLE\" PROOF
Up for sale is an incredibly rare, vintage black-and-white locomotive photograph featuring one of the crown jewels of Pennsylvania Railroad steam history: the experimental Class K5 4-6-2 Pacific, Road Number 5698.
Only two K5 locomotives were ever built by the PRR in 1929 (#5698 at the PRR Altoona Works and #5699 by Baldwin) in an ambitious, short-lived effort to upgrade the legendary K4 design. This photo beautifully captures the unique, imposing silhouette of #5698, highlighted by its massive, flush-fitting boiler and elongated hand-fired cab.

The back of this original print features the authentic, stamped registry markings of the historic Locomotive Photograph Co. out of 4721 Walnut St., Phila., PA.

- Front: The image remains crisp with excellent contrast, showcasing fine mechanical details of the running gear, wheels, and side rods. Some toning/wear typical for a vintage photo of this era. Edges and corners are mostly well-preserved, one corner does have a crease. Please view all photos.
- Back: Stamped lettering and handwritten ink are fully legible with authentic age-related oxidation and minor handling marks on the cardboard-weight backing.
