J.Thomas Iroquois Carved "Whistler" Mask
Carved wood miniature "Whistler" or Spirit Face mask by Cayuga Chief Jacob E. Thomas (1922–1998), Six Nations Reserve, Ontario. Carved with expressive facial features and stylized cheek accents: featuring copper eye inlays, incised brow detail, and natural horsehair trim. Inscribed on verso "WHISTLER MASK" and signed "J. THOMAS".
Measures approximately 3 inches long (excluding hair).
Collector's Note: Chief Jacob E. Thomas (1922–1998) was a respected Cayuga chief, elder, and master artisan from the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario. Renowned for his craftsmanship in traditional woodcarvings, he dedicated his life to preserving Haudenosaunee culture, language, and ceremonial art. His hand-carved masks and sculptures are celebrated for their authentic detail and held in prominent collections worldwide.
