Rare Photo from Photographer George Goodman from Fort Hill Margate. The subject appears to have his face painted black as he might be acting. I believe the photo to be from the late 1800's.

This Cabinet card is quite possibly an image of Canadian-American minstrel performer George Primrose (1852-1919), in character and wearing blackface.

Here is a little history of the studio;

Henry Goodman at 1 Fort Hill, Margate, in 1858, became a prominent portrait studio in the area, later joined by Louisa and George Goodman. The studio produced significant Victorian portrait photography, operating at Fort Hill/Fort Road from 1858 through the late 19th century.
