Rare Collectible Vintage Mt. Saint Helens Ashtray Hand Cast Volcanic Glass 1980 For Sale

On May 18, 1980 after two months of fitful activity Mt St Helens erupted violently that major eruption disintegrated 1300 feet of the mountains peak causing volcanic Ash to fall on eastern Washington and to be carried by prevailing winds east across the entire country to the Atlantic Ocean. One week later a subsequent smaller eruption and a shift in the winds brought Ash to Portland Oregon Portland artist Curtis Jewell was thus inspired to design this commemorative rendering of the mountain in its newly modified shape this Mt St Helens form is made of volcanic Ash from the fallout fused at 2600°F to form volcanic glass. This beautiful unused commemorative ashtray was hand cast at Bullseye glass company in Portland Oregon. This beautiful ashtray has a diameter of 5 inches and stands approximately 1.1 inches tall.
