A highly detailed brass astrolabe astronomical instrument featuring extensive engraved Arabic inscriptions, astronomical scales, geometric diagrams, rotating components and intricate openwork decoration. The front features a beautifully worked openwork rete with elaborate scrolling leaf and vine motifs. Around the instrument are multiple engraved circular scales, Arabic characters and astronomical markings. A movable engraved rule crosses the central section.
The astrolabe can be completely disassembled, as shown in the photographs. It includes two removable circular plates, with astronomical and geometric diagrams engraved on their surfaces. The plates feature radial grids, curved lines, divided scales and Arabic inscriptions used in the traditional layout of astronomical instruments.
The reverse side is also extensively engraved with multiple concentric rings, divided sections and Arabic characters.
