🏡 A little Appalachian homestead, preserved beneath the glaze…
This remarkable vintage Blue Ridge plate was hand painted at Southern Potteries in Erwin, Tennessee, and signed by documented Blue Ridge artist Mildred Broyles.
Rather than the floral decoration commonly associated with Blue Ridge dinnerware, this special piece features a wonderfully expressive rural landscape—a quiet farmhouse beneath a golden-yellow sky, surrounded by trees, fields, distant hills, and tiny birds in flight. 🌳🐦
The loose brown brushwork and glowing yellow palette give the scene the feeling of an old mountain memory.
Look closely and you can still see the individual strokes used to create the trees, house, garden rows, and surrounding countryside. Because the artwork was painted by hand, no two examples would be exactly alike.
Mildred Broyles was one of a select group of Southern Potteries artists whose names appear on signed specialty pieces. Her known work includes rustic cabin, landscape, and wildlife subjects.
Artist-signed Blue Ridge plates are considerably scarcer—and more sought after by collectors—than the company’s standard dinnerware patterns.
The back bears the authentic factory mark:
“Blue Ridge

The painting is sealed beneath the glaze, helping preserve its rich yellow and deep brown colors through the decades.

The bright white areas visible across the painted scene in some photographs are reflections from the glossy glaze rather than losses to the decoration.
