Rare Antique Labelled Pill Box Pot Lid Apothecary Chemist Pharmacy History For Sale

A very rare small (3.5cm diameter) labelled pill box, c.1854+, for Compound Antibilious Pills by James Cockle (1782-1854), a once famous London surgeon. The finely engraved label reads: Compound Antibilious Pills / As Prepared / by the Late / James Cockle / Surgeon / being his only preparation / 18 New Ormond Street / London. Original red coloured taxation labels wrapped around the sides and base. The interior contains a red powder which, I was told, was original to the box, though I believe this has been added for effect at a later date and is not contemporary. The box is in good used condition for its age and is a remarkable survivor, I can only find others in museum collections. Some foxing to the label, age-related. Overall very good. A tiny and very rare piece of medical history from this iconic London surgeon.
