A very rare antique Japanese Hikeshi Zukin, a traditional protective hood worn by Japanese firefighters.
This hood matches the antique firefighter Hanten jacket currently listed in my shop. Finding an original hood together with its corresponding Hanten is extremely rare and makes this a special piece for serious collectors.
Please note: The matching Hanten is listed and sold separately. This listing includes the hood only.
The exterior is made from densely stitched dark indigo cotton. The interior features an attractive traditional geometric pattern. Its substantial construction and beautifully aged texture reflect the skill of historic Japanese textile craftsmanship.
Traditional firefighters wore thick quilted cotton garments that could be soaked with water before fighting fires. Today, surviving examples are highly valued as Japanese folk art and textile history.
Perfect for collectors of:
• Japanese firefighter antiques
• Sashiko and Boro textiles
• Indigo-dyed cotton
• Japanese folk art
• Rare historical clothing
• Wabi-Sabi interiors and wall displays
Condition is very good.
100% cotton.
