Rare Antique Horse Ring Bit Attributed To Navajo Maker For Sale

Now here\'s a solid piece that belongs in your collection! This is a rare Navajo ring bit, circa 1860. By the 1850\'s, the Navajo had learned blacksmithing from Spanish New Mexicans and possibly Anglo American smiths. The Navajo are the only Native American tribe to have made their own iron bits, and most of these are beautifully worked ring bits. The ring bit is a cruel looking bit that has been used in Mexico from the late 1500s. This style of bit fell out of favor by 1900 in the American Southwest but was still used on the Navajo reservation until after WWII.
