Antique Clem\'s Cola & Orange Bottling Co. wooden bottle crate from Malvern, Arkansas, in Hot Spring County.
The crate is marked “Clem’s Orange” on one side and “Clem’s Cola” on the opposite side, giving it wonderful two-sided advertising appeal.
This is a particularly interesting example because it retains an unusual wire bottle-separating system inside the crate. The wire framework is original to the crate, with the original yellow paint extending onto and around portions of the wire on the exterior. I have handled and seen many vintage soda and beverage crates, but I have never encountered another Clem’s crate with this type of wire separator.
The crate is constructed of heavy wooden boards and retains its original yellow painted finish with bold black Clem’s advertising lettering. The aged paint, wood grain, nail construction, advertising graphics, and wire framework give this piece wonderful authentic character.
The interior shows considerable age and use, including oxidation to the wire, darkened wood, paint wear, scratches, dents, and general surface wear consistent with its age and working history. There is also an old piece of cord/string tied to the crate. Please examine all photographs carefully, as the photos are an important part of the description and show the condition, construction, and unusual wire separator.
A great piece of Arkansas bottling history and an especially appealing addition to a collection of antique soda crates, advertising memorabilia, regional bottling history, or early beverage collectibles.
