RPPC Black face parade unkonwn town PA? ca. 1918 minstrels? social historyHere\'s a very interesting real photo postcard that appears to show a \"black face parade\". This appears to be in a small town or city, possibly in the northeastern U.S. Not a lot of clues except the architecture, which I\'d guess is Pennsylvania but that\'s just a guess. But Pennsylvania is more likely because some of the only references I can find to blackface parades are in PA, and the only similar photographs I\'ve found are a series from a blackface parade in Pitman, in Schuykill Valley, Pennsylvania. (Those were from about 1900, and you can see one here: scarce subject.Blackface parades, the internet tells me, often featured broken down vehicles as part of the negative stereotypes of African Americans. I think some of these parades were associated with a Minstrels show coming to town, but there\'s nothing really to indicate that, except that there\'s a decent crowd of kids watching. This postcard is unfortunately slightly trimmed, and measures 5 1/8 x 3 1/4 inches. Scrapbook reside on the back. See scans. $6 ground advantage shipping in U.S.I\'ve been selling on for 20+ years, 100% positive response. offer with confidence. Quick secure shipping.
