Youare offerding on a hand turned Majestic Junior Amboyna Burl rollerball pen.The blank for this pen is madefroma beautiful piece ofSTABILIZED AMBOYNA BURL.A \"burl\" is an abnormal growth that typically grow on the outside of the tree and usually near the tree trunk.Since each \"eye\" of the burl could have grown into a tree branch, this causes the grain to grow in every direction at the same time. A burl typically also has bark inclusions, voids, as well as other things making it difficult to turn. A burl also does not form on most trees so they are all very rare, yet contain the most desired wood and is worth all of the extra effort to turn, as you can see.A \"stabilized\" pen blank is injected with acrylic at high pressure which dramatically helps both the color and figure of the wood to POP!I am now using the Super Glue (CA Glue) finish for all of my pens.This type of finish is extremely durable and will help keep your letter opener safe from water, oil and the rigors of daily use. It takes a little longer to use this finishing method, and costs a little more as well. However the finishyou have on the item when completed, is very similar to an acrylic, and will last the life of the item with no problems.This particular pen is a Majestic JuniorRollerball Penand has the advantage of being larger size pen, but not so big that it\'suncomfortable or heavy to hold.
