Raven Forge Bowie – Forged by My Own Hand - 1861 half dollar set into the pommel!!
This Bowie was born in fire and hammer, shaped by sweat and steel here at Raven Forge in Florida. No machines, no power hammers — just me, my anvil, and the old ways. Every strike of the hammer, every pass through the fire, is done by hand.
The blade is forged from 1/4" thick 5160 spring steel, heat-treated the way it ought to be: normalized, thermal-cycled, hardened in oil, then drawn back to temper. That process toughens the grain, relieves its stress, and leaves it with a hard, biting edge that’ll hold up through work and time. Has a hidden tang.
This knife means business — 13 inches of razor edge, 19 1/4 inches overall, 2 1/4 inches wide, with a distal taper to bring balance and speed to a blade that weighs only 1lb. 12oz. She’s heavy enough to break bone, light enough to shave hair. Built strong, built right, and built to last.
The handle is RED DEER from POLAND.It feels alive in the hand, not dead like factory wood or plastic. This knife has soul, the kind you only get when it’s made one at a time at the forge.

I stitch the sheaths myself from vegetable-tanned leather, dyed and sealed to endure. Just like the blades, no two are ever the same. They bear the marks of the hammer, the quirks of the hand, and the scars of the fire — imperfections that prove they’re handmade, not stamped out by a machine.
I had the honor of representing Raven Forge on the History Channel’s Forged in Fire, appearing in Season 4, Episode 22. The experience was both challenging and rewarding, allowing me to refine my craft while connecting with talented bladesmiths. I gained invaluable knowledge and forged lasting friendships along the way.
A Word on the Bowie’s History:
The Bowie knife carries a legend as big as the American frontier. Named for Jim Bowie, who made it famous in the early 1800s, it was more than just a weapon — it was a tool of survival. In the infamous 1827 Sandbar Fight, Jim Bowie was shot, stabbed, and left bleeding on the ground — thought to be mortally wounded. Yet, against all odds, he rose and fought back with a large knife, cutting down his attackers and surviving the ordeal. His incredible resilience and the deadly effectiveness of that blade cemented Bowie’s place in history.
After the fight, Jim’s brother Rezin commissioned an even stronger and better knife for his protection — the blade that became known as the first Bowie, which was lost at the Battle of the Alamo. From that moment on, the Bowie was the trusted companion of pioneers, soldiers, and adventurers. Built to clear brush, dress game, split wood, and, when needed, defend a man’s life, the Bowie stands as an American icon: bold, rugged, and uncompromising. This is my version of the legendary Bowie.
