[In the French Army, collective unit decorations were a massive source of pride. Whenever an armor company or regiment was awarded these citations, it was customary to hold an official ceremony.French tank regiments periodically cross-trained with or absorbed heavy tank units.The crew members gathered to pose for a commemorative photograph next to their Mark V* tank to document their unit's newly decorated status, proudly displaying the highly decorated fanion as proof of their combat success. The specific Croix de Guerre medal with 2 Palm devices attached to it represent a massive honor. Having two palms means they received this elite commendation twice for two entirely separate acts of collective heroism in battle. Because the unit achieved two Army-level citations, they were automatically awarded the Fourragère of the Croix de Guerre (a braided unit cord). This cord is permanently draped over the fanion, and every individual member belonging to that specific regiment was granted the distinct privilege of wearing a matching fourragère on their uniform's left shoulder.]
