Offered here is a fairly rare vintage Arts & Crafts period ancient Egyptian revival-themed solid copper crumb caddy (aka silent butler) or napkin caddy/trinket box, hand made by Leland Drumgold of California. Made sometime during the 1930s-1950s. After some online research, I\'ve been unable to locate another example of Drumgold\'s work that features a similar ancient Egyptian theme. Very unusual.
From online sources:
Leland Joseph Drumgold (1897–1953) was an American artisan and coppersmith who founded Drumgold Copper Arts in Oakland, California. He is recognized as a significant figure in the Arts & Crafts movement, particularly known for his hand-wrought, hammered copper tableware and decorative objects produced during the 1930s through the early 1950s. Before dedicating himself to copper arts, Drumgold served as a tinsmith for the railroad and worked as an \"industrial arts\" teacher in Oakland.
Dimensions:
About 9\" x 5.75\" (including handle)
Condition:
Overall excellent condition for age. No cracks or dings as far as I can tell, just marks associated with the crafting process. Natural, mild surface oxidation here and there. Lid hinge operates smoothly and without sound. Faint traces of polish in the nooks and crannies. See photos!
