VERY RARE Original Panels from the Chinese Pavilion at the St. Louis1904 World’s Fair. Two One-of-a-kind small mahogany and bone panels- handmade wood carvings that were crafted in China, disassembled, and shipped to the US where they were reassembled for the World’s Fair. The patterns depicted were crafted at the beginning of the century to replicate Prince Pu Lun’s Palace in Peking.
These panels depict horses and birds in a forest setting.
Panels are over 100 years old- and in original condition. PLEASE NOTE, the price on these two items have been significantly dropped due to wear. Aside from slighter blemishes, scratches, and general wear, there is significant wear on the boning on the tree depicted on one of the panels and along the body of the horse and bushes on the other panel. The piece was carefully stored at Washington University- and inherited through two generations. There are noticeable small cracks in the wood, pictured. They are still amazing and RARE pieces- would be amazing for a collector who is familiar with bone-inlay repair. Again, price drop is reflected by these flaws in the pieces,.
2 items: both 10inches x 23inches x 2inches.
