RARE KEEN KUTTER # 5C MADE BY OHIO TOOL FOR THE SIMMONS HARDWARE CO. 1906-1912 For Sale

This is a rare Keen Kutter # 5 C corrugated Jack Plane, made by the Ohio Tool Co. for the E. C. Simmons Hardware Company, between 1906 - 1912. I have owned many Keen Kutter planes over the years and found most, if not all, were made by Stanley. As I started restoring this plane however, I began to notice several features that were not Stanley. When I researched the Keen Kutter history, and web site, I found these odd features to be listed as a plane being manufactured for Simmons Hardware by the Ohio Tool Co. The biggest differences that I noticed, were the 7 mounting points machined on the base to tightly secure the frog, and the frog\'s large machined surfaces both top and bottom. The tote is also a different shape, has a very thick front base, with round head steel screws holding it in place. The chip breaker is much thicker than a Stanley, does not have the curve near the front, and has a screw with a rounded edge and a circle cut into the top to hold it to the iron. Cap iron is slightly shorter than a Stanley, but seems heavier. The plane has been restored to like new condition. Body and frog refinished, original tote and knob cleaned and clear coated, iron squared, sharpened, and stropped to a mirror finish. Sides and sole were lightly cleaned. Plane seems to have seen only light use, as there is no rust, pits, chips, cracks, stains, or owner\'s marks. Collector\'s quality plane for show and tell, great display piece, rare collection addition, or a fantastic shop tool. Set up to cut ribbon shavings. When was the last time you have seen a Keen Kutter 5 C, made by the Ohio Tool Co, and in this condition. Jim S
