This lamp is the personification of Hollywood Regency style!
The "bundled wheat" motif emerged in the post war period and had
all the right symbolism that made it a darling of Hollywood designers!
The graceful wheat was both elegant and yet also tied in to the
earthiness of the farmlands. The design creates visions
of ancient gilded Greek temples and the aristocracy of the
European Empire furnishings of yore! This lamp is exceedingly rare and has its original brushed paper shade!
Most of these shades were long, long ago destroyed by time. 70 years is a long time
for a lamp shade - but this one has emerged with only a few stress marks.
Seeing the lamp as it was originally meant to appear is a delight!The towering shade has light and dark gold streaks which was done by pairing
a paper shade with an early acrylic coating. Look closely at the images and you
can see this wonderful brushwork! They can't make shades like this anymore
because the technique was lost and other materials replaced it.The base, too, has this brushed treatment which creates a marbleized copper
finish that is simply spectacular!A truly fabulous example of Hollywood Regency! This lamp is in excellent condition and only
shows only very light wear for nearly 70 years!
Lamp works perfectly and produces the most elegant illumination
