Maker and age: On the reverse of this exquisite lunch plate is the green underglaze white ware mark number 12 (1894-1931) and the red decorator\'s mark number 13 (1889-1931) of Haviland, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. Together they confirm that the plate was produced and decorated by the Haviland factory between 1894 and 1931.
A red retail mark confirms that the plate was produced by Haviland for the Charles Mayer Company of Indianapolis. The company was established in 1840 and closed in 1954. It reopened in 1992 and is still in business.
Design: The double gold trimmed scalloped plate is in the rare and utterly beautiful pattern called Schleiger 55. It features a band of finely detailed pink roses against a pure white background. One rose drops down from the band into the white center.
This plate appears to be in the variation called Schleiger 55-D, with darker roses, but that is not confirmed.
Haviland pattern identification disclaimer: The Haviland companies produced between 30,000 and 60,000 china patterns, many with only slight variations, and the identification of this item\'s pattern is not guaranteed. If you are trying to match a Haviland pattern, please check all the photos in this listing very carefully against your own items to be sure this is the right pattern for you.
Size: The plate is 8 1/2 inches wide and weighs 10.7 ounces.
Condition: It has no marks, nicks, scratches, cracks, stains, discoloration, repairs or crazing. There is a chip on the front edge - it\'s shown in the photos - and light wear to the gold edge.
Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
