Each glass rod is polished, with beveled ends. The removable rectangular glass insert fits snugly within the holder and features an attractive embossed rib pattern. The insert lifts out easily for convenient use.

The combination of polished glass rods, delicate hand wired construction, and patterned glass insert gives this distinctive piece a refined, architectural appearance. Truly a unique centerpiece.

Origin & Dating

Believed to be Bohemian in origin, circa 1895–1915. A related shape with the use of glass rods and wire appears in a Carl Hosch catalog. There is also a Bohemian glass birdcage with the same glass rod and wire construction displayed at the Passau Glass Museum in Germany. These comparisons are suggestive rather than a confirmed holder

• Rim width: 3⅛ glass rods are complete and intact, with no visible chips or hairline breaks.

  The glass insert has one the very outside of the rim where the glass mould line can be felt, there is a couple of flea bites along the very edge of the mould line that was found by touch. Does not distract. Otherwise the box has no chips, breaks, or stains.

  As an observation, one wire may have been replaced, as the metal appears considerably lighter in color than the other wire used in the construction. Please see the last two photographs for a closer look at this detail.
