We had a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire 4 of these hard-to-find Gillinder & Sons frosted lion paperweights at sale. They were part of a huge estate collection of amazing Gillinder & Sons pieces in very nice condition. We didn\'t win the lion paperweights and waved them goodbye while listing Gillinder pieces we did get. But apparently, the lions weren\'t picked up and we got another chance and the next sale! We paid a pretty sum, but are preparing all 4 here.

Gillinder & Sons were a glass company that innovated many glassmaking techniques, including their patented frosting technique. For the American Centennial Exhibition, the company created a massive output of glass products--servingware, figurines, etc., much of it depicting all phases of American life. Their lion series is highly prized and this particular recumbant lion on a rectangular base is rare.
