These are Antique European porcelain (circa late 19th to early 20th century).
BACKGROUND STORY:
The backstamp reveals that these pieces are antique souvenir plates manufactured in Germany during the late 19th or early 20th century.
It reads "Handpainted from Portland, Oregon. The Rose City. Germany 33."
During the late 1800s and early 1900s, American merchants and souvenir studios—such as The Jonroth Studios—frequently commissioned high-quality porcelain blanks from famous German or Bavarian factories to be decorated and imported back to specific regional markets in the United States.
These plates were specifically produced as commemorative pieces celebrating Portland, Oregon's official nickname, "The Rose City", which gained widespread national prominence around the time of the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition and the founding of the Portland Rose Festival in 1907.
The number "33" (on 3 of the plates) & “22” (on 1 of the plates) likely refers to the specific factory mold, decorator stamp, or production line batch number used by the German manufacturer.
These RARE commemorative 7” diameter plates are in excellent antique condition with only a few slight rubs to the hand-painted portions.
The gold gilt trim is in beautiful condition!
