A magnificent and historically significant relic of Scottish heraldry, this handwritten and hand-painted Extract of Matriculation patent document, dated May 15, 1899, is an extraordinary testament to ancestral pride and noble tradition.
Meticulously crafted on vellum, the decree formally records the family’s distinguished coat of arms, detailing the symbolic elements that define its legacy. At its heart lies a knight’s shield adorned with a Baron’s coronet, a commanding hand bearing a sword, and the proud Latin motto “Nec temere, nec timide” — translated as “Neither rashly nor timidly.” Every stroke of script and brush is a vivid example of late Victorian artistry and heraldic custom.
The document bears the illustrious signature of the Lord Lyon King of Arms of Scotland, the sovereign authority on heraldic matters in the realm. Below his hand rests a remarkable large wax seal housed within a tin case, its lid elegantly embossed with a regal crown — a fitting emblem for this noble patent.
Measuring an impressive 17.5 inches high by 23.5 inches wide, the document is accompanied by its original presentation wood box, richly covered in deep red Moroccan leather.
