Large signed Mexican Huichol/Wixárika yarn painting by Procopio Pérez Robles. This intricate handmade composition features a large multicolored serpent-like creature surrounded by radiating ceremonial forms, human figures, birds, plants and geometric symbols against a vivid blue background.
The reverse contains a handwritten Spanish explanation of the imagery, along with the artist’s signature. Several portions are difficult to read because of the handwriting, wood grain and hanging wire.

English translation:
“This picture tells the story of this creature, a serpent with many heads and legs. The heads are filled with many offerings, and the body and the two… This is the picture of its little deer… It has its heart from the gods.”
