“Stand On the Word”

It was a late Saturday evening in a small town not too farfrom here. A God-fearing woman was caring for her grandchild, Mya. She put hergrandbaby to bed and started preparing for her Sunday dinner. While preparingthe dinner she realized she didn’t have any butter to put in her famousmacaroni and cheese. She checked on her grandbaby and the poor child was soundto sleep so she decided to not wake her and run down to the grocery store onthe corner. She figured the entire trip should take no more than 15 minutestops and the child would never miss her. So she grabbed her sweater and headedout the door. When she got to the store, she ran across a friend from churchand they talked for a couple minutes and the grandmother said, “Sis Smith Ihave to get back home to my grandbaby. She’s asleep and I just ran around hereto get a stick of butter.” She didn’t realize that she had left a dish towelnext to the stove and the eye was still hot. The towel caught on fire andwithin minutes the kitchen was engulfed in flames. The crackling of the fireawakened the little girl and she immediately called “Grandma!” As she openedthe door to walk down the hallway, the fire was rushing up the hallway. She ranback in the room and closed the door. She ran towards the window and tried toopen it, but it was locked and she couldn’t reach the latch to unlock it. Soshe grabbed a chair to stand in but still couldn’t reach the lock. She lookedback and saw the smoke coming in from under the door. As she grabbed a couplebooks to stack in the chair, she began to cough. She climbed on top of thebooks that were stacked in the chair and still couldn’t reach the latch tounlock the window. Just then, she heard a voice and the voice sounded like itwas right there in the room with her. The voice said, “Remember what Grandmatold you. Whenever you find yourself in any type of trouble and it seems to beno way out, STAND ON THE WORD.” So shewent back to the bookshelf and grabbed grandmas’ bible and sat it in the chairon top of the other books. She climbed on the chair and stood on the bible andshe could reach the latch. She climbed out the window and ran around the housewhere she saw flashing lights and some men holding her grandmother back. Grandamawas crying and screaming “My baby! My baby is in there, somebody help my babyis in there.” The child pushed her way through the crowd and said, “No I’m notGrandma. I’m right here. I remembered what you told me. Whenever I find myselfin any type of trouble and it seems to be no way out to-“STAND ON THE WORD.”
