Antique RPPC – Sheboygan Interurban Line, Plymouth, Wisconsin
Real photo postcard of a single interurban car on a curving track through open, rolling country, with wooden line poles carrying the overhead wire alongside. A boulder-strewn field fills the foreground behind a wire fence, with a stand of trees and a low wooded ridge beyond. Penciled on the front margin: "Trolley, Plymouth, Wis." Plymouth was served by the Sheboygan interurban system, which opened from Sheboygan to Kohler and Sheboygan Falls in 1899 and was extended to Plymouth in 1904, connecting there with a line to Elkhart Lake. The Sheboygan–Plymouth line was abandoned in December 1938. Postmarked Plymouth, Wis., January 28, 1911, 5 PM, with a green one-cent Franklin stamp, and addressed in purple pencil to Mrs. A. at a Wisconsin address, with a pencil message written in two overlapping layers. A nice piece for collectors of Plymouth and Sheboygan County topographical postcards, Wisconsin interurban history, or early trolley real photos.
