Plates by German Artist Bjørn Wiinblad 1974-1976, Vintage, Hand Painted For Sale

Gorgeous jewel toned colors and imaginative depictions. Excellent ‘like new’ condition. Limited edition Christmas plates designed by the Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad for the German manufacturer Rosenthal. This particular series, often referred to as the Christmas Gospel plates, was produced annually between 1971 and 1982.Each plate is hand-painted on a deep cobalt blue background with saturated colors and extensive gold highlights, measuring approximately 11 to 12” in diameter. Identification of the Plates is based on their motifs, the three plates shown are: Left Plate: "Balthasar" (1974)The image shows one of the Three Kings, Balthasar, holding a gift. This is the fourth plate in the original 12-plate series. Center Plate: "The Annunciation" (1975). The central design depicts the archangel Gabriel appearing to Mary. This was the fifth edition in the collection. Right Plate: "Angel with Trumpet" (1976). This motif features a whimsical angel playing a trumpet. It is the sixth plate in the series, often titled "Engel mit Trompete" in German.
