This 3 ½” x 5 ½” photo postcard pictures Mrs. Henry Fawcett( 1847-1929), who served as president of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage Societies from 1897-1919, an umbrella organization that was a non-violent counterpart to its militant suffragette rival, the Women’s Social and Political Union. It has been posted and there is a message on the back, but, in general, the card is in very good condition. She championed legal change, persuasion, and logical argumentation rather than the militant tactics used by other suffragists. She married Henry Fawcett a Liberal Member of Parliament on 23 April 1867. Henry had been blinded in a shooting accident in 1858 and Millicent acted as his secretary.
