$15.00

Antique Postcard – Patchogue Trolley, Suffolk Traction Co., Patchogue, Long Island, New York
Printed postcard captioned \"Patchogue Trolley, Patchogue, L.I.\" showing a close, broadside view of a streetcar lettered \"Suffolk Traction Co.\" along its side, with arched-top windows, passengers seated inside, and a slatted fender at the front. Behind the car, a large frame building carries a hotel sign ending \"...ral Hotel\" with \"Garage in the Rear\" beneath it, with striped awnings and storefronts along the street. The first Suffolk Traction streetcar ran down Main Street in Patchogue on July 1, 1911, with free rides for all who could climb aboard, and regular service ran hourly from Main Street and Ocean Avenue to Blue Point. The last streetcar ran in Patchogue on October 10, 1919. Published by Swezey & Newins, Patchogue, L.I., the department store Arthur M. Swezey and Fred B. Newins opened in 1894 at Main Street and Ocean Avenue. Postmarked Patchogue, N.Y., September, 4 PM, with a green one-cent stamp, and addressed in pencil to East Moriches, Long Island. The pencil message, headed \"Saturday,\" reads in part \"Dear Sister, Hope all is well at home,\" mentions that Ruby went to Westhampton that day, wishes they all could come up, and is signed \"Sister Frank.\" A great piece for collectors of Patchogue and Long Island topographical postcards, Long Island trolley history, or Suffolk County memorabilia.
