Paris France Antique Postcard LL La Grande Roue Ferris Wheel 1919 WWI APO 741 For Sale

Antique Postcard – La Grande Roue, Paris, France
Antique color printed postcard of La Grande Roue, the giant Ferris wheel built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. This is card No. 1430 in the LL series. The caption is in French and English and reads \"La Grande Roue – The big whell,\" with the original misspelling. The view shows the full wheel with its passenger cars against a pastel sky, the twin steel support towers, a tall brick chimney, and Paris rooftops in the foreground. The wheel was dismantled beginning in 1920, so the card shows a landmark that no longer exists. The divided Carte Postale back is marked Lévy Fils & Cie, Paris. The card was mailed through U.S. Army Postal Service No. 741 and cancelled April 25, 1919, with a violet circular censor handstamp. APO 741 served the American Expeditionary Forces\' Ordnance Repair Shops at Mehun-sur-Yèvre, France, and the handwritten message is headed \"Mehun – 4/23/19.\" It is addressed to San Francisco, California. A great piece for collectors of Paris topographical postcards, World\'s Fair and amusement history, or WWI AEF soldier\'s mail.
