This visually striking pair features darkened hand-carved wood, geometric incised decoration, stylized facial features, and a complementary male/female presentation that displays beautifully together.
The female figure shows classic akua’ba-inspired design elements including the broad disc-form head, ringed neck, small facial features, and prominent stylized torso. The male figure is carved in a matching seated form with related incised decoration and a sculptural presence that pairs well with the female. Museum references note that akua’ba forms were widely adapted and commercially produced in Ghana during the 20th century, often with traditional features modified for decorative and art-market contexts.
