These Lucas headlamps come from the early days of motoring, when cars carried lamps of this style before electric headlights became standard. Joseph Lucas of Birmingham was one of the best-known British makers of lamps and automotive lighting, so a pair in this condition is a great find for collectors and restorers.
The brass has a bright, mirror-like polish that contrasts with the black painted bases and the dark cast latch on the side of each lamp. Details include the domed, vented top cap, the round ring handle, the hinged front door with its flared lens surround, and the copper rivets on the clasp.
