Era: 1950s/1960s.Hand carved by an unidentified HAITIAN folk artist.These two busts depict tribal African women wearing a headdress, a metal necklace and dangling wire earrings. Jewelry looks like it is probably brass. Hand carved wood. Bust 1 (LEFT) Tiny \'ding\' on left side of her forehead. Base: 2 5/8\" x 1 3/4\" X 3/4\" (approximate) Height: 7 1/2\" (approximate) Weight: 6 3/4 ounces (approximate) Earrings: intact and swivel freely, as intended, from front to back. Necklace: intact.Bust 2 (RIGHT) Tiny \'scuff\' mark at the base of the back of her head (right side). Base: 2\" x 2 5/8\" x 3/4\". Height: 6 5/8\" (approximate) Weight: 7 3/4 ounces (approximate) Earrings: intact and swivel freely, as intended, from front to back. Necklace: intact.NOTE: In each case, the base has been created at a slight angle, meaning the rear of the base is taller than the front.ALL MEASUREMENTS ARE APPROXIMATE.In very good preowned vintage condition.
These folk art hand carved wood tribal figures (heads, busts) have minor scuffing.
Some unevenness in coloration (has likely always been this way).Original owner is relative of a good friend of mine, who inherited a mini-collection of carvings they purchased on their travels. It is known that they traveled to Haiti several times and that they purchased carvings there. (I don\'t have exact details though).
Not abused or displayed.
Climate controlled closet-stored (residential) until now.
