BUCK’S STATEMENT:
There was a time when young men from places like Oshkosh, Milwaukee, and small Wisconsin farm towns found themselves standing under a very different sky — not the gray Midwest winter, but the blinding sun of the Mojave Desert. Before they ever saw Europe or North Africa, they trained in the dust and heat at the U.S. Army’s Desert Training Center, learning how to fight in terrain that felt like another world. This simple cactus patch was their mark — proof they endured the heat, the sand, and the discipline required to prepare for global war.
This isn’t a reproduction or a museum copy. This is the real cloth insignia from that era — stitched during a time when General Patton himself was shaping armored divisions in the desert. You can imagine it sewn onto a wool uniform jacket, faded by sun and sweat, worn by a soldier who would later ship overseas. Holding it now is holding a quiet piece of that preparation — the calm before the storm of World War II.
