Original WWII-era Japanese Rising Sun flag made from lightweight silk.
This is a privately produced or display-type flag associated with wartime Japan. It is not an officially issued Imperial Japanese Army regimental standard.
The Rising Sun design was individually hand dyed rather than mechanically printed. Natural variations, uneven edges, and areas of red dye bleeding into the white fields can be seen throughout.
Its nearly square proportions are somewhat unusual.

Both vertical edges were finished with hand stitching. Stitch holes remain at one corner where a reinforcing cloth patch was once attached, but the patch itself is no longer present.
The flag has approximately two small holes, together with general wrinkles, minor stains, and age-related wear.
It was formerly displayed inside a glass case by a militaria collector. Double-sided tape had been applied around the perimeter of the reverse side. Visible adhesive residue and stickiness remain along the reverse edges. No attempt has been made to remove it because cleaning could damage the delicate silk and original dye.
Despite these condition issues, the vivid hand-dyed design retains strong visual appeal and displays well.
