This is just a great original piece. Anyone who follows my store, knows that I have been offering more and more photography lately. I think it is an area of collecting that under appreciated and under valued and when I can purchase special photographs, I always will. Fortunately, recently I came across a small collection of original photographs by important Colorado photographer Ira Current. For those not familiar with Current, I have included his biography below. This is one of two original photographs I am offering this week by Current. This is an incredible original photograph of the Colorado City train station. Gelatin silver photograph measuring 10 5/8 x 13 5/8 inches on original mount measuring 20 x 16 inches. An outstanding original photograph in excellent condition. Clean and great contrast to the image. Mount is clean with just a few minor spots and bumps. On the back is all sorts of great information about this original photograph. It has the artist\'s original stamp from when he was living in Binghamton, the title of the photograph and the year, an original label from when this photo was exhibited at The Photo Club Society in November in 1966 and another label taped on from the exhibition. Really about as great as you are going to find. Particularly because, though the photo was originally taken in 1928 this is still a vintage print as we know it was printed before 1966 when it was exhibited. Really just a wonderful important photograph and a must have for any collector. His photographers rarely if ever come to market. For those not familiar with the artist his biography from the University of Colorado Special Library Collections Department reads: \"Ira Current was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Park and Anna Current on October 30, 1910. He took up photography while still in high school in 1926. Throughout high school and college he worked for the Stewart Brothers photo finishing, commercial photography and photo-engraving shop. While earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder, he was a student photographer for the CU theatre department. After graduating in 1934, with a degree in chemistry, he went to work at the photography company Agfa Ansco in Binghamton, New York.
During World War II (1943-1946) Current served at the U. S. Naval Photographic Science Laboratory in Anacostia, D.C. His military service continued in the Naval Reserve, until he retired as a Commander. After WWII he went back to work for Agfa Ansco, later known as General Aniline & Film Corporation (GAF). He managed a department that was involved with evaluation and standards for all sensitized products and equipment and was the head of the Industrial Photo Division before retiring in 1972. After retirement Current began teaching at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). There he taught color printing theory and materials, and the processes of photography. He retired from his position at RIT in 1987.
While residing in Binghamton he served as president of the Binghamton Camera Club for 12 years. His professional duties led to serving on several photographic committees of the American National Standards Institute. Current maintained membership in several professional organizations, and was on the editorial staff of the Journal of the Photographic Society of America for over 42 years. He is the author of three books, Photographic Color Printing, Electric Eye Movie Manual, and How to Process Color Films at Home; he is co-author with L. Stroebel, J. Compton and R. Zakia of Materials and Processes of Photography. Current also wrote many articles, editorials, and reviews, and holds five U.S. patents.
Ira Current and Ellen McGarry (1921-2017) were married in Providence, Rhode Island on April 29, 1944. They had four children: Dr. Michael, Susan, Brian, and Navy Captain Richard. Ira died on May 19, 2009 at age 98.\"CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE. DONT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY.
