Original US AUTOMATIC Pencil Sharpener – patent1907 – made of steel in the United Sates. It was the best-selling pencilsharpener in the U.S. during 1907-14.
This sharpener is of the windmill type withrotating star-knife blades. After the pencil is inserted at the top, the handcrank turns blades which whittle down the pencil. Tips on the end of each blade turn a cam, which rotates the pencil as it is sharpened. Shavings fall into a removabledrawer. During the first quarter of the 20th century, rotarysharpeners (cylindrical cutter with spiral cutting edges like we know today)became dominant and windmill style sharpeners like this one fell out of favor.
