Up for sale is an original 19th century spirit cdv photo / ghost photography featuring a portrait of a woman posing in a chair and the head of another woman off to the right… floating or suspended in the curtain. Measuring approximately 4.5" x 2.5", this antique photograph from the 1800’s is a Carte de Visite with a “spirit” added to the photo. The spirit head was carefully cut from a tintype and interestingly placed/added to the cdv photo. The sitter in the photo is identified on the back, handwritten in pencil as Mrs S.A. Clark age 36. Noted below that is “The property of ?” Can’t quite make out the name. Just a really unique and interesting spirit photo and perfect for any old photographic image collection.
Spirit photos were more than just a Victorian era curiosity, it was a way to show that loved ones lived on. And more than a special effect… it was a way for people to have a connection with the afterlife.
