GEM! Oliva carneola #2 22.1mm, Dautzenberg 1927, GORGEOUS BEAUTY from Vanuatu. Found by a diver in the sand in 5 feet of water, Vanuatu. Finding shells that live buried in the sand is one of those things that brings out the ingenuity in people---I remember looking for miters while snorkeling, and since they often left no trail, we found them by fanning the sand with our swim fins, quite a workout to be honest, but when something rolled into sight, wow! Another method used more and more? Go looking for them at night, when they think it is safe to pop out of the sand. All of the live bubble shells I collected, I found only at night, and again, watching them pop out of the sand was awesome! Dredging was another method that yielded great results, but a boat and a dredge are kind of mandatory to pull that one off, (we had friends who took us out!) And the last method I got to use? Visit a sandbar at a very low tide---if you\'re lucky, terebras will pop out of the sand, (at Punaluu, there was a terrific sandbar that once or twice a year you could do this at, and it was incredible!). Anyhow, this is the second of 4 carneola olives from around the world, and this too is unique, coming from that exotic place everyone would like to go to, Vanuatu! AndGEMslike this one would just add to the vacation, with those white stripes on its glossy, golden/grey body, this shell is a rarely offered beauty that would lookterrific sitting on your shelf!
The perfect shell for a first-class collection.
As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that\'s why so many of the photos of shells on show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest! As for response, as your know, sellers live and die by the response you leaved, (please leave fives!) so if you have a problem, just let me know! After all, I\'m retired, and all messages go directly to my phone, so unless I\'m out shell collecting I will get back to you pronto-like!Shell collecting! Now there\'s a phrase that brings smiles to your eyes, doesn\'t it!Anyhow, if you have read this far, you have my apologies and best wishes from those of us at IslandShells323. And don\'t forget,Home is where your collection is!
