*****************Old Vintage Hopi Polychrome Bowl by Cora P. Andrews*******************
For sale here is an exquisite old Hopi polychrome bowl by master potter Cora P. Andrews. Cora was born in 1892 and died in 1965. She most certainly was influenced by early Hopi pottery makers such as Nampeyo, Rena Leslie, and Paqua Naha. Her work is highly prized by collectors and has sold for thousands of dollars. I am convinced, based on the similarity of signature and style, that Cora P. Andrews and Cora P. Charlie are the same person, with Andrews likely being her married name. However, there is no evidence to prove this claim.
I estimate this bowl to have been created circa 1930-1940.
This bowl features classic sityatki-revival motifs, including avian designs, swirls, cross-hatching, and geometrics. The colors range from a creamy yellow slip, to a lovely rust-orange, to dark brown. The mid-exterior is also completely decorated with geometric patterns. There are a few minor scuffs and scratches, which is to be expected for a bowl of this age, nearly 100 years old.
The bowl measures 10-3/4" wide by 3" high.
A partially obscured signature on the bottom reads "Cora...Andrews."
