Vintage Primitive Punched Tin
Heart Shaped Cheese Strainer
With Handle
Marked IES

For your Americana or Primitives A beautiful vintage punched tin cheese strainer or mold. The cheese strainer is shaped in the form of a heart. It has ~3" high sides and is equipped with three small round feet to allow it to drain. The tin base of the strainer is also punched to allow drainage. The sides as well as the base have holes and slots in a repeating pattern. The piece has a small round tin handle at the top of the heart. The piece is marked on the base with the letters IES within a circle along its circumference. A great piece of Americana worthy of a place in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

  • Date: Uncertain but most likely mid to late 1900s (mid to late 20th century), could be earlier.
  • Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania, where it was most likely made.
  • Size: The strainer measures ~4 3/4" at its widest dimension, by ~5 1/4" from the heart's point to the top of the handle, and ~3 5/8" high including the feet. The piece weighs about 6 ounces.
  • Maker: Unknown.
  • Marks: Marked with the letters IES within a circle along its circumference (see next to last photo).
  • Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice Americana primitive tin piece in generally good shape and worthy of a spot in your collection.
  • Condition: The strainer is intact with some wear to the surface and several rust spots. It is in good condition with no break, losses, or repairs. The surface has scratches and minor dings but nothing of true concern. It is soiled and has stains, but this is truly not an issue. The strainer also has rust spots and area on the inside at the base with a large rusted area, but still the piece solid and in one piece in good condition. A nice piece of Americana, which would make an excellent addition to your vintage primitives collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
