ORIGINAL WORLD WAR TWO U.S. MILITARY PURPLE HEART CASE. This is an original, wartime manufactured, titled case for the U.S. Purple Heart medal. The bodies of the war time manufactured Purple Heart cases were made of wood to conserve metal for the war effort. A magnet does not stick to this case. Post war manufactured cases were made of metal and a magnet will stick. Further, this case has a piece of leatherette covering the hinge. This is a feature found on wartime manufactured cases. Post war cases have exposed hinges without the leatherette covering. The wartime cases are also slightly larger in size. This case is in very good condition showing some light storage wear & age - see photos. Measures 6.50 X 3.50 X 1.0 inches. There are many Purple Heart cases currently advertised for sale as WWII when they are in fact post war. If you are in the market for a WWII manufactured case, this one is for you.
