ORIGINAL VINTAGE JOHN KEARTON SILVER GELATIN PHOTOGRAPH

Female Whinchat with Crane Fly Prey — Purley, Surrey (c. 1920s–1930s)

An original early 20th-century vintage black-and-white silver gelatin photograph by natural history photographer John Kearton. This high-detail camera study captures a female Whinchat perched on a branch, holding a crane fly firmly in its bill.

Fully handwritten on the reverse in blue ink:

• \"1, Graham Rd, Purley, Surrey.\"

• Overall Condition: Very Good vintage condition.

• Print Detail: Crisp focus with fine tonal contrast and clean emulsion.

• Paper / Reverse: Flat, clean, and uncreased with light, natural age-toning to the card stock on the reverse.

John Kearton carried forward the groundbreaking wildlife photography traditions of the Kearton family, capturing intimate studies of British bird life in the field. Original working prints bearing his early personal home address in Purley, Surrey, are scarce additions to ornithological and vintage photography collections.
